Longtime Perry resident and community banker Julie Collins is retiring after 44 years with Wells Fargo, and the public is welcome to attend her retirement party Friday, April 5 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ankeny branch of Wells Fargo at 910 E. First St. in Ankeny.

Collins started working for Brenton Bank in May 1980, and her first day found her in the bookkeeping department, learning to “file checks,” she said.

“Banking has changed over the years but still my favorite part has been working with so many wonderful customers,” Collins said.

Norwest (Wells Fargo) purchased Brenton Banks in 2001, and Collins continued her banking career in Perry. Her most recent positions have been branch manager and personal banker, working in locations such as Perry, Johnston, Ames, Fort Mill, S.C., and most recently in Ankeny.

“The people I’ve worked with have impacted my life in so many positive ways,” Collins said. “I have built many lifelong friendships. The hardest part about retiring is not being face to face with those people and not being able to help people with their banking needs on a daily basis. However, my future plans include spending more time with my eight grandchildren and digging deeper into my gardening hobby. I also have a goal of camping in every State Park in Iowa!”
