Longtime Perry High School science instructor Ken Finer celebrated his 85th birthday Friday in the company of his fellow members of the Society of Retired Experts (SORE) at the Perry Perk coffeehouse.

Helping to mark Finer’s latest solar revolution were his fellow SORE members John Andorf, Gary Becker, Jim Caufield, Ray Harden, Lou Hoger, Larry Laborde, Joseph Shelly, Dan Spellman, Tom Ulrich and Rich Wede.

A choral ensemble from the Women of Wonder (WOW) coffee group was on hand to salute Finer with a stirring rendition of “Happy Birthday to You!” The singers were Cathy Clark, Shirley Ehlers, Lois Hoger, Elsie Mace, Connie McGuire and Myrna Whitehead.

Perry Perk owner Tari Mason, in her 10th year as proprietor of the popular downtown coffeehouse, kept the celebrants fortified with fresh coffee and cinnamon rolls.

“We all wish Ken the best today and every day,” Mason said with a smile.
