Knights escape with overtime win over Panthers

WOODWARD — The Woodward Academy won their 12th game in the last 13 contests with a 63-55 win over Panorama in boys WCAC action Tuesday.

The Knights (14-5, 12-5) led, 37-32, as the fourth quarter began, then had a 46-43 lead with two minutes left in regulation before time expired with the teams knotted at 51-all.

Panorama (6-15, 4-14) scored first in the extra period, but the Academy snagged a 57-53 edge with two minutes to play and then led, 59-55, with a minute to go en route to the win.

Rob Salley’s 21 points were a game-high for the host Knights, with Qwame Davis adding 13 points and Uric Booker eight. Yoshi Richardson and Mike Barker accounted for six points apiece, with Ty Young tallying five points and DeAndre Roush four.

Zac Rizzuit had 18 points for Panorama, with Luke South contributing 10 and Malachi Peasley and Gracen Welberg scoring eight each. Jacob Merschman scored four points, as did Michael Allen, with three points from Blaine Barber capping the scoring.

Panorama faces Greene County Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Woodward for a Class 2A District 15 first round contest, with W-G battling AC/GC in the 8 p.m. contest. The Panorama vs. Greene County winner faces host Des Moines Christian Feb. 15 at 8 p.m., with the Woodward Academy playing the W-G vs. AC/GC winner at 6:30 p.m.
