Despite wet and rainy conditions, Perry St. Jude Council 1243 of the Knights of Columbus held their annual Youth Soccer Challenge Sunday at the Perry Athletic Complex.

Participants were given 15 kicks at an undefended goal from the penalty spot (a bit closer for the younger entrants). Points were awarded on the accuracy of the successful kicks, with shots into the corners worth more points than those struck straight-on.

Kimberly Salgado won the girls 9-year old category, with Maria Valdez and Bethany Espinoza tying for top honors in the 10-year old division. Yamileth Gonzalez was second among the 10-year old kickers.

Rafeel Fermin-Nava and Sergio Munoz were 1-2 in the boys 11-year old competition, with Ismael Fermin-Nava first and Jesus Gonzalez second in the 13-year old boys division. The boys 14-year old winner was Victor Fermin-Nava.

Winners advance to the District competition October 7 at 3 p.m.
