Thanksgiving is Thursday, and, as everyone knows, Friday begins the unofficial kickoff of the holiday season.

In keeping with tradition, the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Lighted Christmas Parade through the streets of downtown Perry Friday, beginning at 7 p.m.

The parade will follow the traditional route of moving north from Otley Ave. along Third St. to Pattee St. then west to Second St., returning to Otley.

The City Christmas Tree, located along Railroad St. at the Perry Public Library, will be illuminated shortly after the parade. The Perry High School Select Choir will be singing carols during the lighting ceremony.

Refreshments will be served in the TownCraft Building, where Santa Claus will be on hand to pose for photos and hear the requests of all the excited youngsters.

The Carnegie Library and Museum Festival of Trees will be available for viewing (and voting for a favorite) from 6-8 p.m. Friday. The Festival of Trees can be visited from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 and from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18.

City crews spent last week adoring lamp posts around the downtown area with the new lighted wreaths, which made their well-received debut last winter. The Perry Volunteer Fire Department has also been busy, changing the outside lights on City Hall, and stringing lights through the trees at the Raccoon Valley Bank.
