Lions claw host Hawks in WCAC net action

WOODWARD — Visiting Des Moines Christian swept host Woodward-Granger in WCAC volleyball Tuesday, with the visiting Lions winning on scores of 25-17, 25-12, and 25-16.

DMC improved to 3-0 — all in league action — with the win while W-G fell to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Elly Polich had nine kills to lead W-G, with Natalie Weaver having three kills, Audrey Simmons two and Gena Tague and Grace Deputy one each. Simmons had 10 assists, Polic three, and Weaver and Faith Keuhl one apiece.

Weaver had 1.5 blocks, Deputy and Brayten Ashman one each, and Polich and Tague .5 blocks apiece. Polich and Keuhl each had eight digs and Weaver seven. Ashman and Darby Nixon came up with four digs apiece, with Simmons making three and Tague two.

The Hawks finished 43-of-48 serving with five aces, a success rate of 89.6 percent.

Simmons was 9-of-10 with two aces and Weaver 9-of-11 with a pair of aces while Keuhl finished 9-9-1 behind the line. Ashman served 6-of-7, Polich 5-of-6 and Nixon 5-of-5.

W-G will play Thursday in the ADM tourney.
