“Kindness Matters” was the theme of the 2018  Perry Lion’s Club Peace Poster Contest, and some 60 students from Jessica Brocka’s Perry Middle School sixth grade classes entered the contest.

The posters were submitted to the Perry Lions Club for judging, and the winners received their prizes at the Monday night meeting of the Lions in the Hotel Pattee.

The first-place prize went to Litzy Ramirez of Perry, who received a certificate and $25. Her winning artwork will now advance to the Iowa Lions SW9 district competition.

The second-place prize of a certificate and $15 was captured by Julie Maylum of Perry, who was unable to attend Monday’s event.

Third place went to Valentina Mion of Perry. She received a $10 prize and a certificate.

The winners explained the meaning of their posters to the members of the Perry Lions Club and then they and their families joined the Lions for the meal.

Brocka and her students also received a Perry Lions Club ball point pen in gratitude for their participation in the project.

The next meeting of the Perry Lions Club will be the club’s annual Christmas social Dec. 10 at the Hotel Pattee. The pre-dinner social hour starts at 6 p.m., with the meal served at 6:30 p.m.
