DES MOINES — Panorama fought back from a 2-0 deficit to tie Monday’s girls soccer match against 12th-ranked Des Moines Christian, but the Lions had one goal left to score and so escaped with a 3-2 victory.

Panorama head coach Curt Thornberry said “it was a close game the whole way” and that he was pleased with how his squad played, especially defensively. He singled out junior Bryn Steffen for what he called “a standout performance on defense.”

DMC (10-1) led, 2-0, in the first half when Ella Waddle scored on a penalty kick to halve the deficit for Panorama (9-3).

The score remained unchanged until the second half, when Waddle scored on a set play off a direct free kick, with Deanna Solorzano credited with the assist.

Unfortunately for the guests, DMC still had plenty of life remaining, and scored minutes later to set what became the final tally.

Panorama returns to action tonight when they host West Central Valley (who is sharing with AC/GC and Nodaway Valley) at 5 p.m. A boys match (WCV does not share the boys program) will follow at 7 p.m.
