Lions scratch out win over host Panthers

PANORA — Visiting Des Moines Christian led all the way in recording an 11-5 WCAC win over Panorama in Thursday softball.

The Lions (1-1) held a 3-2 lead after three innings, then added two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to open a 9-2 gulf. The Panthers (1-2) scored twice in the sixth to remain in range, with two DMC runs and one Panorama tally in the seventh capping the scoring.

Gracey Richey tossed all seven frames for the hosts. She allowed 11 runs (seven earned) on 14 hits and three walks. Richey struck out one batter and hit two with pitches.

Claire Woodworth crunched a solo home run for the home team, with Lindsey VanGundy and Jazmyn Sellers each hitting a double. Jaidyn Sellers provided two base hits, with singles also coming from Lindy Nelson, Shey Storesund, Brix Gymer, Grace Webner and Richey.

Angel Poldberg, Shelbie Mash, Storesund, Woodworth and Jaidyn Sellers each scored for the Panthers. Richey had two RBIs while Woodworth, Webner and Jaidyn Sellers also drove in runs.

Audrey Klein went 5-1/3 frames for DMC. She yielded four runs (two earned) on 10 hits and a walk while striking out six. Kaleigh Friend threw 1-2/3 stanzas, allowing a run and a walk.

Panorama plays in the AC/GC tourney Saturday, starting play at 9 a.m. against West Harrison. The Panthers visit Madrid Monday, East Union Wednesday and Earlham Thursday.
