Pella struck for nine first inning runs Monday en route to a 17-5 whipping of Perry in five innings of non-conference baseball at Progressive Field. Lead off batter Avery Van Zee started the onslaught early with a solo home run, the first of two solo shots Van Zee would launch in the game.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Five runs in the second put Pella (18-14) in front, 14-0, with the gap growing to 15 when the Little Dutch scored once in the fourth.

Perry (8-11) was able to force play to continue by plating four runs in the bottom of the frame, but two Pella runs in the fifth were countered by only a single Bluejay tally as the game came to an early conclusion.

Keghan West has roughed up for nine runs (six earned) on six hits and two walks in just one inning of work. Aaron Lockwood pitched the second frame, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks with a strikeout while Avery Meister yielded three runs on three hits and a walk in three innings on the hill. Meister recorded three strikeouts.

Ben Akers allowed five runs — all of which were unearned — on eight hits in five innings of duty. He recorded one strikeout.

Noah Van Vark had a home run, a single and four RBIs while scoring three times for Pella, with Ryan Mace adding a double, two singles, four RBIs and two runs while Jaden Rolffs swatted two doubles.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Kaleb Olejniczak, Gavin Boyer and Kato Dougan had a triple, a single and a RBI apiece, with Olejniczak scoring once, as did West. Meister finished with a double, two runs driven in and one scored, with Justin Stammer hitting a single and scoring twice.

Perry hosts Winterset tonight in their Raccoon River Conference and regular season finale. The postseason begins Friday when Perry faces host Webster City at 7 p.m.
