ARNOLDS PARK, Iowa — Perry native and veteran rock guitarist J. C. Wilson will be honored in September with the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the association announced Tuesday.
Wilson, a 1978 graduate of Perry High School, now lives in Des Moines and operates a nightclub. He is no stranger to accolades from the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association, having been inducted into the association’s Hall of Fame in 2016 as a bandmember of the Flying Marsupials, who toured from 1989 to 2003.
Wilson’s roots in musical performance go even deeper since his first public performance in the gymnasium at St. Patrick School in Perry in 1972 as a member of the Perry teen sensations Phyx, the band later evolving into Rukkus.
“Thanks to everyone — there are so very many — that helped me with my lifetime of live music-ness,” Wilson said Saturday.
Wilson will receive the lifetime award during the Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-4, at Arnolds Park, with more than 35 individuals and bands to be honored.
“We’re excited to present this wonderful class of inductees and award winners during the 25th anniversary of our association,” said Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association Executive Director Clay Norris.
