TRAER — Tuesday’s non-conference tilt between Woodward-Granger and host North Tama was a contest featuring two girls basketball teams searching for a victory.

A strong third quarter from the guests proved to be the difference-maker, as W-G (3-12) recorded a 39-21 win, dropping North Tama to 1-13 overall.

The evening started with a 25-19 win for the W-G girls, and the Hawk varsity started strong in trying to bookend the trip, grabbing an 8-4 lead after one frame and holding a 17-15 edge at the intermission.

A 12-2 advantage in the third period lifted the visitors to a 29-17 lead and provided a comfortable margin en route to the win.

Olivia Schrier had five points for North Tama, with Molly Kvidera, Hope Brubaker and Takoa Kopriva adding four points apiece while Abby Deboef and Rylee McClean each had two points.

Kayley Dresback led W-G with 11 points, with Alyssa Bice adding eight points and Katelyn Scharlau seven. Five points from Natalie Helbling, three from Mae Anderson, two each from Faith Kuehl and Kaitlyn Peters and a free throw from Ava Peterson capped the Hawk scoring.

W-G finished 15-of-23 from the foul line in the victory, with North Tama connecting on 9-of-16 at the stripe.

W-G returns to action Friday when they host Van Meter.
