PANORA — The Panther boys outscored their guests, 7-3, in the final 60 seconds of Tuesday’s WCAC contest, but it was not enough to overturn the outcome as Madrid held on for a 51-48 victory. Panorama fell to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the loss, while Madrid climbed to 5-1 and 4-1.

The hosts fell into a 14-5 hole after one quarter and found themselves facing a 30-22 deficit at the half. The Panthers closed to within 34-29 in the third quarter, but the Tigers were able to use a small push to set the score at 39-31 entering the fourth frame.

Panorama trailed, 43-32, with four minutes to play, but the hosts refused to yield. Although behind, 48-41, with a minute remaining, the Panthers kept fighting, nearly pulling off the last-minute rally.

Gracen Welberg’s 20 points was a game-high, with Panther teammate Michael Allen adding 11 points. Malachi Peasley and Zac Rizzutti scored six points apiece, with Jacob Merschmann adding four points and Trey Cobb one.

Landen Burke had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Madrid, with Braden Gibbons providing 10 points and seven assists for Madrid.

Panorama host Van Meter tonight and will conclude the pre-holiday portion of their season with a visit to Woodward-Granger Tuesday.
