MADRID — A three-run first at-bat fueled Madrid to a 5-1 WCAC softball victory over Woodward-Granger Tuesday.
The Tigers (2-7, 3-3) plated three runs in the first inning and then added a run in the third to take a 4-0 lead in their softball meeting.
The Hawks (0-12, 0-7) scored their lone run when Rian Jamison parked a solo home run to lead off the top of the fourth.
Kenzie Carrick, Ava Petersen and Aubrey Simmons all had singles for W-G.
Jamison was touched for five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two in suffering the loss.
Erica Bruns allowed four hits and two walks while recording eight strikeouts in collecting the win on the rubber.
Shelbi Raymond had a single and a double while scoring twice for the hosts, with Erin O’Neal tallying two singles while Emily O’Neal smacked a double.
W-G will host Pleasantville Thursday for a WCAC varsity twin bill.
