Maizie Lord, 83, of Perry passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at the Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Maranatha Baptist Church, 877 S.E. 19th St. in Grimes. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 5 from 3-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry.

Burial will be at the Ashton Cemetery in rural Mingo. Memorials will be given to Alpha Women’s Center, 3605 S.E. 14th St, Des Moines, IA 50320 or Maranatha Baptist Church in Grimes and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Maizie Joyce Lord was born May 3, 1934, at Collins, Iowa, to Ervin and Ethel (Stratton) Holmes.

She attended school at Clemons High School and Iowa State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree.

Maizie was united in marriage to David George Lord at Clemons, Iowa, Sept. 8, 1957.

She worked as a social worker in Des Moines until her marriage to David.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Berean Baptist in Perry and later Maranatha Baptist Church in Grimes. She especially enjoyed teaching the primary school children in Sunday School.

She enjoyed reading good books, magazine articles, listening to traditional hymns, classical music, watching orchestral, brass band, wind ensemble and vocal presentations on PBS.

She also enjoyed her cats and her occasional dog.

In death she rejoins her husband, David Lord; parents, Ervin and Ethel Holmes; sister, Shirley Mills; and brothers, Winnifred Holmes, Roland Holmes, Oliver “Ollie” Holmes and James “Jamie” Holmes.

Left to cherish Maizie’s memory are her four sons, David “Phil” of Clemons, Timothy and his wife, Lisette Kielson, of Bloomington, Ill., Colin and his wife, Dianne, of Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea, and Daniel of Clemons; eight grandchildren, Jon Hunley, Maria Lord, Colin D. Lord, Jonathan Lord, Natasha Lord, Benjamin Lord, Isaac Lord and Joshua David Lord; and two great-grandchildren.
