Marilyn Roberts Hagemeyer, 82, of Perry passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, in Perry, Iowa.

According to her wishes, Marilyn donated her body to Des Moines University. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 9 from 5-7 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be in the Rippey Cemetery at Rippey at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to her family for a later designation. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Marilyn Joan Roberts Hagemeyer was born Aug. 9, 1935, on a farm near Rippey, Iowa, to John “Ivan” and Helen Arlene (Hunt) Burk Sr.

Her mother died in 1940, and then her mother’s parents and their daughter, Maxine, came in to live with them. Gram and Pappy helped raise the four children. Maxine was like a sister to her.

Marilyn attended school at Rippey, graduating with the class of 1953. There were four Marilyn’s in the class, and three had sisters named Janice.

She was united in marriage to Wilford Roberts June 7, 1953, at First Christian Church in Perry. Later she married Hank Hagemeyer Dec. 4, 1975, in Des Moines.

Marilyn worked at the Perry Milk Co. and the Peggy Ann Candy Co,, both in Perry, at Van Ginkels Co. in Des Moines and lastly at the Snuggles Water Bed Co. and the Continental Bag Co. in Mexico, Mo.

She retired in 2001, moved to Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and enjoyed travelling with family often.

Marilyn was a member of the Old West Ministries in Desert Hot Springs. She was a teacher and mentor to the Sparkling Waters quilt club in her community at Desert Hot Springs. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and square dancing.

She made quilts for Project Linus, lap blankets for the V.F.W., Dress a Girl Around the World and helped with homeless bags in the Desert Hot Springs area. Marilyn made hundreds of quilts for her family, friends and even strangers.

In death Marilyn rejoins her parents, Ivan and Helen Burk; aunt, Maxine Vickery; brother, John Ivan Burk Jr.; sister, Barbara Denman; brother-in-law, Bill Squires; and niece, Shelly Thompson.

Left to cherish Marilyn’s memory are her children, Ronald (Paula) Roberts and Rhonda (Bill) Olson; grandchildren, Aaron (Bobbi) Baxter, Kyle (Mindy) Baxter, Barb (Mark) Thacker, Matt Roberts, Mikayla (David) Carlson and Anna (Jordan) Scott; great-grandchildren, Cole and Brianna Baxter, Reese, Cash and Charlie Baxter, Brandon (Michelle) Thacker, Nicole (Alec) Lewison and Caleb Thacker; great-great-grandchildren, Sutton Hibbing and Daisy Thacker;  sister, Janice Squires; and many nieces and nephews.
