GRANGER — Class 1A No. 3 Martensdale-St. Marys saw a 7-2 lead disappear in the bottom of the sixth inning, but responded to score once in the seventh to escape Woodward-Granger with an 8-7 win in non-conference baseball Tuesday.
The Blue Devils (17-3) won their 13th consecutive contest with the late rally while W-G dropped to 14-4 overall.
The Hawks led, 1-0, after their first at-bat, but the guests scored four times in the third and three times in sixth to snatch a 7-2 lead, as the home team had plated a run of their own in the fifth.
Five W-G runs crossed the dish in the sixth to bring the game even at 7-all, but M-SM plated a single tally in the seventh and then kept the hosts from scoring in their final at-bat to capture the victory.
Six different players toed the rubber for W-G, with the loss eventually handed to Reese Jamison.
Jay Dorenkamp and Trevor Simmons both had a pair of singles for W-G, with Joe Rhodes and Bryce Achenbach adding base hits. Jack Grell and Dorenkamp each drove in two runs, with Achenbach, Rhodes, and Simmons all driving in a run.
Esa Johanson and Cole Cassady had two singles apiece for M-SM, with Carson Colbert adding a single and two runs while Trey Baker hit a double and drive in two runs.
W-G hosts Woodward Academy Thursday for a WCAC varsity doubleheader.
