Perry senior Natalie Martinez has been named to the Class 2A All-State Second Team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Martinez had previously been chosen as an All-West Region First Team honoree.
No girls soccer player in Perry history has put the ball in the opposing goal as frequently as Martinez, who departs as the all-time scoring leader with 93 goals. She had 24 goals and five assists this season for Perry (8-10), who bowed out in the regional finals for the third time in four years.
Martinez will play her college ball for a true powerhouse in Tyler Junior College in Texas. The Lady Apaches are a combined 45-3-1 in the past two years, winning the 2017 National Championship while finishing as the national runner-up last fall.
