About 20 runners and walkers and as many supporters gathered Saturday morning for the annual McCreary Community Building Memorial Walk and Run. The event honors the memories of loved ones.

About 20 contestants stepped up to the starting line at 8 a.m. Saturday for the annual McCreary Community Building Memorial 5K and 10K Run and Walk, setting off early and finishing well before the rising heat posed any risk.

Runners nearing the midway point of the course were greeted by the sight of the Dallas County Hospital water stop, where Haleigh Kenyon of Perry was handing out bottled water.

The annual event, which combines the former Run Like a Fox Run and Miller Memorial Run, is open to anyone looking for a healthy way to honor the memory a loved one.

Coming from Nebraska for the race, Jill Fox honored her loved won by winning the women’s 5K with a time of 28:17. Jennifer Sprung of Perry won the women’s 10K at 51:29.

Keegan Pfau of Perry took the men’s 5K with a time of 17:50. Lonnie Ostransky of Perry won the men’s 10K, finishing at 53:34.

All registered entrants received a t-shirt, and winners in each category received token prizes, but the real winners were those whose memories are kept fresh and good deeds alive.
