Visitors chatted and admired the holiday decor in five homes opened Thursday for the third annual Spring Valley Christmas Tour of Homes and Wine Walk.

A jolly spirit reigned Thursday evening at the Spring Valley Retirement Community during the third annual Christmas Tour of Homes and Wine Walk, where residents and guests enjoyed live Christmas music, wine, cheese, nativity sets and a door prize.

Five tenants at Spring Valley Retirement Community — Carm Staker, Nellie Davis, Shirley Harvey, Jackie Spellman and Nylene Hansen — opened their holiday homes and warmly welcomed guests for a tour of their Christmas-themed rooms. One respite apartment and one vacant residence were also decorated and open for inspection.

In the community room, musician Steve Parnell, a perennial crowd favorite, entertained with Christmas carols, and the festively dressed Perry Lutheran Home staff members greeted visitors and explained the logistics of the tours.

“This event is a great time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones,” said the Rev. Max Phillips, CEO of the Perry Lutheran Homes.

In addition to Christmas décor, a variety of nativity sets were on display throughout the Spring Valley campus, and guests were encouraged to count the number of nativity sets and make their best guess for a chance to win a gift basket.
