Nellie Davis' doorway took first prize in the annual Christmas Door Decorating Contest at the Perry Lutheran Homes Spring Valley Campus.

About a dozen residents of the Perry Lutheran Homes Spring Valley Campus competed in the annual Christmas Door Decorating Contest this year, and judging was held Friday morning.

Spring Valley Activity Director Krista Espinoza led the panel of three judges — Perry Public Library Deputy Director Misty Von Behren, Vince Sturm of Generations Wealth Advisors and Jim Caufield of ThePerryNews.com — on a tour of the contestants’ doors, which were all highly festive.

“This is always a lot of fun for folks,” Espinoza said. “A lot of thought goes into decorating our doors.”

In the end, the door of Nellie Davis of Perry was deemed the loveliest of doors for its  originality, traditionality, festivity, thematic unity and several other categories. Second place went to Alice Hoffman’s door, and Gloria Heenan’s Christmas portal earned third place.
