No trouble for Panorama boys in opener

PANORA, Iowa — A strong first half was more than enough to carry Panorama past visiting West Central Valley in their Class 2A District 15 first round battle Monday.

Panorama (14-8) won, 66-49, after turning a 21-13 lead after one period into a 38-24 advantage at the intermission. WCV (5-18) found themselves outscored, 17-9, in the third frame to face a 55-33 deficit entering the fourth quarter.

Jared Wasson led the Panthers with 19 points, with Maddox Hammerstrom adding 11 points. The hosts received nine points from Braeden Draper, eight from Braylen Dawes, six from Brice Taylor, four apiece from Austin Block and Klayton Bremer, three from Jackson Peasley and two from Weston Ploeger.

Wasson pulled down 15 rebounds and had five assists, with Hammerstom adding four boards and three assists. The Panthers collected four caroms and two assists from Draper, with Dawes coming away with five thefts.

Panorama faces AC/GC (13-3) tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Van Meter, with the hosts to play I-35 at 8 p.m. The winners will meet, in Creston, Tuesday at 7 p.m. to determine who will advance to the Feb. 26 Susbtate 8 Final.

The Panthers and Chargers split during the regular season, with each winning as the visiting team, AC/GC by a 65-64 margin Dec. 17 and Panorama by a 65-57 final Jan. 21.
