NORWALK — Three runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second helped Norwalk (2-0) eventually post a 10-4 win over visiting Perry (0-2) in non-conference softball Friday.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Each team plated a run in the fourth, with Perry scoring again in the top of the fifth, only to have the hosts add five runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to open a 10-2 gulf. The Jayettes continued to battle, and scored twice in the seventh, but it was not nearly enough to reverse the outcome.

Senior Alyssa Kruger tossed five innings, yielding five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks. She struck out one.

“Alyssa threw well,” Perry head coach Tina Lutterman said. “We need to wake up the bats and play defense aggressively. It is early in the season and because we had rescheduled games this week and were not able to actually play, those little things are going to take longer to come together.”

Eighth grader Jayna Kenney experienced her first varsity action in the circle with one inning pitched. She hit one batter, allowed three hits and was touched for five unearned runs.

Kruger had a RBI-double at the plate, with Jo Diw also hitting a double. Sid Vancil had a base hit and a stolen base, with Adriana Eastman, Gabby West, Grace Stewart and Kenney also recording base hits.

Perry visits ADM Tuesday, and will then host Carroll Wednesday and Boone Thursday.
