Perry fell to host Ogden Friday in their second outing of the football season.

OGDEN, IA — Friday’s non-district meeting between host Ogden and Perry proved to be a somewhat unexpected one-sided affair, with the Bulldogs in control throughout in handing their guests a 41-0 blanking.

Perry had played a good game the prior week, with positive signs in several areas despite a home loss of 39-21 by Panorama. Few such indicators were present in the second outing of the season for Perry and first of the campaign for Ogden, who seized control early.

A double-pass on the first Ogden offensive play turned into a 29-yard touchdown pass from tight end Keaton Westberg to Jack Christensen for a quick 7-0 lead. A four-yard Nathan Comer run pushed the score to 14-0 after one period of play.

Ogden came away with the first of two fumbles on quarterback sacks at the 26-yard line. Moments later Bulldog quarterback Carsen Morman pushed in from two yards away for a 21-0 advantage. Quinton Hoskins increased the margin to 27-0 with a 19-yard run on the next Ogden possession.

Perry had their best play of the game on the ensuing possession, with Juan Hernandez carrying a Cayden Heck pass 60 yards down to the Bulldog nine yard line.

Unfortunately the Bluejays were unable to turn the big gain into points, with Morman then hitting Cael Pearson for a 79-yard TD moments later. Hoskins ran in the two-point conversion, pushing the gap to 35-0 and starting a running clock.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, with Gavin Hegstrom stopping one Ogden drive by recovering a fumble.

Morman found Dylan Perdue for a 75-yard TD in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

Hoskins ran for 154 yards on 16 carries, Comer 19 yards on two runs and Morman six yards on six totes. All scored once on the ground.

Morman was 9-of-14 for 219 yards and two TDs passing, with Westberg 1-for-1 for a 29-yard score.

Perdue (2-86, 1 TD), Pearson (2-78, 1 TD), Christenson (5-66, 1 TD) and Hunter Meeks (1-19) had receptions for the home team.

Heck connected on 4-of-10 passes for 76 yards passing for Perry, with Hernandez (2-69), Holden Smith (1-4), and Drake Levan (1-3) the targets.

Hernandez (20-83), Keegan Snyder (13-35) and Heck (5 minus-41) had carries for the Jays.

Perry head coach Bryce Pierce singled out a pair of players for their efforts.

“Kevin Colin put a few kids on their backs blocking all night,” Pierce said. “I was really impressed with his play, and I also thought that Keegan Snyder’s motor never stopped the whole game.”

“We just did not execute plays as well as we did against Panorama and it showed up in the results,” Pierce said. “We’ll look to improve this week and be ready to fight for the Cowbell!”

Snyder, Hegstrom and Kain Killmer each had five total tackles to pace the Perry defense, with Hegstrom having the aforementioned fumble recovery. Colin contributed four tackles, with Geren Kenney also making four stops.

Perry will host Greene County Friday at Dewey Field for the 91st playing of the Cowbell Game.
