VAN METER — A quick start was not enough to lift Panorama to victory Tuesday, as host Van Meter rallied to claim a 10-5 win in their Class 2A District 14 Semifinal.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

The win sends Van Meter (27-8) to the D14 Final Saturday, in Van Meter, against Ogden (23-5). The victor will play, Tuesday, in Marshalltown in the Substate 7 Final for a spot in the state tourney. Aplington-Parkersburg faces South Hamilton in the D13 Final.

Panorama (7-16) was off to a 3-0 start in the top of the first inning. Van Meter starter Marshall Smith retired only one batter in tossing just 15 pitches, allowing three runs on five hits.

The Bulldogs countered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, then went on to open a 10-3 lead by scoring once in the second, four times in the third and twice again in the fourth.

The Panthers fought back, scoring once in both the fifth and sixth frames, but it was not enough to alter the outcome.

Anthony Potthoff pitched 4-2/3 innings to collect the win in relief. He yielded an unearned run on three hits while striking out three. Brett Berg also fanned three while surrendering an unearned run on two hits in two innings to close out the game.

Berg drove in two runs with a pair of doubles, with Spencer Lamb and Smith also swatting doubles for the hosts.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Jacob Iseminger started for Panorama and tossed 2-1/3 innings. He was touched for eight runs on eight hits while walking three. Hunter Holmes finished up on the hill with 3-1/3 frames of work, during which he yielded two runs on four hits and two walks.

Steve Soreide had two doubles, a RBI and a run for the Panthers, with Brayden Hoffman scoring once while Iseminger and Koltin Sloss had two hits apiece.

Dominic Walker, Tanner Godfrey, Luke South and Levi Richey each had singles, with Godfrey, Walker and Iseminger driving in one run apiece while South stole a base and scored twice.
