PANORA — Five seniors accounted for all of the scoring as Panorama trounced Clarke, 9-0, in girls soccer action Monday.
The win comes after a tough 3-2 overtime loss at Collins-Maxwell Friday. The Panthers had a reduced squad — all seniors were absent — for the road loss, but the team was at full strength Monday, with head coach Curt Thornberry deciding to make his seniors the focus of the match.
Jensen Wilke scored three times for a hat trick, with Bailey Cmelik and MaKenna Woodvine each beating the keeper twice. Nicole Rolfes and Lexi Van Winkle twisted the nylon once each to account for the remaining Panther goals.
Lauren Soll was in goal for the first half and Ashley Clark for the second half to help keep the visitors off the scoreboard.
The win lifted Panorama to 11-4 in their inaugural season of varsity soccer. The Panthers now face a long layoff, as they will not play until a postseason opener, at home, against Kuemper Catholic May 29.
Monday’s win followed a Friday loss that Thornberry called a “disappointing outcome” consider the Panthers, in his words, dominated time of possession and finished with a 25-9 edge in shots on goal.
Panorama scored first, only to have C-M knot the score. Ella Waddle’s second goal put the Panthers in front, 2-1, but the hosts responded once again to tie the match and force overtime, in which they eventually claimed a 3-2 victory.
Cmelik, Van Winkle, and Wilke all scored for the first time this season in Monday’s win. Woodvine’s two goals were her first scores, although she had two assists to her credit, while Rolfes now has five goals to go with four assists. Italian exchange student Martina Rade is the other senior on the team.
