OSCEOLA — Host Clarke turned a 2-1 halftime lead into a 5-1 non-conference win over Panorama Monday, with the loss dropping the Panthers to 2-6 overall.

Jacob Merschmann scored on a breakaway in just before the mid-point of the first half for the visitors, but the Panthers would not find the back of the Indian net again in suffering the loss.

Panorama was coming off a 1-1 effort at the West Central Valley tourney Saturday. The Panthers had a goal erased for what was ruled “an incomplete set” on a free kick against the host Wildcats. The denial proved fatal, as WCV went on to claim a 1-0 victory.

Unlike the girls teams, Nodaway Valley does not share boys soccer with WCV, and NV was the second opponent Saturday for Panorama. Mershman and Blaine Barber each beat the goalie once to send the Panthers off with a 2-1 victory.

Those results came after a strong Treynor team had posted a 9-0 win in Panora Thursday.

Despite the lopsided nature of the loss, Panorama head coach Matt Fronapfel was pleased with his squad.

“This was the first game all year where I really felt we were playing as a team, which has been an issue for us,” he said. “It is hard to look at 9-0 and see something good, but we played together and as a unit and that was nice to see.”

Panorama will visit Class 3A Des Moines Hoover Thursday before hosting Underwood Friday.
