PANORA — The Panorama boys basketball team won six games last season, and despite a 1-7 overall start to the current campaign, have played well enough — and shown enough spark — that at least five wins in the second half is clearly possible.

The Panthers are shooting 37.8 percent from the floor (including 30.4 percent on 3-pointers) and 57 percent at the foul line. The team averages 51.5 points per game, but is yielding 58.5 ppg, an area which will need to improve.

Gracen Welberg is averaging 13 points per game and Luke South 10.5 ppg. Jacob Merschman is scoring at an 8.8 ppg clip, Michael Allen at 7.8 ppg and Malachi Peasley 6.1 ppg.

Peasley has drained 15-of-38 treys (39.5 percent) while making 30 assists, with South clearing 37 rebounds. Welberg has 60 rebounds, 12 steals and nine blocks to aid the cause.

Panorama is at Odgen Tuesday, with the boys to host Woodward Academy Friday for a junior varsity/varsity set. The Panthers then go on an extended road trip, playing at Des Moines Christian Jan. 9, at West Central Valley Jan. 12 and at Nodaway Valley Jan. 13 before returning home to host Earlham Jan. 16.
