Panorama boys make short trip to AC/GC Invite

Luke South anchored the sprint medley relay for Panorama at Perry's Davis Relays in their first outdoor meet on the season March 28.

GUTHRIE CENTER — A shortened Panorama boys track team ran an altered lineup and left numerous events open while competing Monday in the Hap Merritt Invitational, hosted by AC/GC.

A powerful Madrid team won the meet with 162 points, with Des Moines Christian totaling 110 points and Van Meter 90. Panorama was 11th of 12 teams with 14 points.

The distance medley unit of Logan Hutchins, Dominic Walker, Zach Rizzuti and Levi Richey were sixth in 4 minutes, 4.6 minutes, with Declan McCarthy, Dillon Bennett, Kade Kemble and Jadyn Kemble eighth in the sprint medley in 1:51.65 with Luke South, Howard, Hutchins and Richey eighth in the shuttle hurdle in 1:10.93. The 4×200 foursome of Richey, Hutchins, Bennett and Kemble also competed, finishing in 1:57.19.

South was fifth (16.33) in the 110 hurdles, Hutchins eighth (1:06.42) and South sixth (12.14) in the 100. Walker ran the 800 in 2:15.48, South the 200 in 25.65 and Avery Norman the 400 in 1:10.95.

Rizzutti added a points for eighth place in the long jump at 16 feet, 8-1/2 inches, with Koltin Sloss active in both the shot put (37’3-1/4) and discus (103’7).

Panorama will host, weather permitting, a Class 2A State Qualifying meet Thursday. Winners and runner-up finishers in each event will advance to Des Moines, with the final eight spots in each event taken from statewide results.
