Panorama's Gracen Welberg makes an attempt in the high jump at W-G last season. Welberg, who competed at the state meet in the event, cleared 6 feet, two inches at an indoor meet in Lamoni Friday.

SAYDEL — For the first time in many seasons Panorama sent their boys track team to Saydel Relays, where the Panthers finished 12th in a 16-team field.

“We knew our boys would be challenged at this meet, but we also know, looking forward, that our boys needed to be challenged and pushed,” Panorama head coach Greg Thompson said. ‘Several boys are currently performing at, or better, than where they were at state qualifying last season. They just need to continue to make good choices, make sacrifices, and continue to work hard to improve. Doing so will, hopefully, have some big rewards in about six weeks.”

Spencer Hunt had a strong meet, placing second in the 400 in 52.6 seconds and fourth in the 100 in 11.36 ticks while crossing eighth, in 23.4 seconds, in the 200.

The 4×200 unit of Allias Stahl, Tannery Godfrey, Danny Nordquist and Gracen Welberg placed eighth, in 1 minute, 38.7 seconds, with Nordquist, Zac Rizzuti, Levi Richey and Lucas Wasson teaming for eighth place, in 9:27.7, in the 4×800.

Welberg cleared six feet to finish third in the high jump, with senior Dan Jensen sixth in the both the shot put (47’8) and discus (135’2).

Both Panorama track teams will visit Van Meter Monday and will then be idle until competing in the Wheeler Coed Relays in Audubon April 24.
