LOGAN — It was Panthers v Panthers Saturday as Logan-Magnolia hosted Panorama for a girls/boys Iowa Hall of Pride Scrimmage between the Class 2A schools.

All the drama came in the opener, specifically in the waning seconds, as the hosts slipped away with a 60-59 win in the girls contest. The boys nightcap offered little suspense, as a turnover-plagued Panorama squad fell to Lo-Ma, 59-27.

The hosts raced to a 17-13 lead after one period in the girls game, and held a 32-26 lead at the half. Panorama — who will start the season ranked eighth — used an 18-11 edge in third quarter scoring to enter the final eight minutes with a 44-43 lead, setting the stage for a wild finish.

The lead changed hands six times in the final two minutes, with the score tied four times during the span. Lo-Ma’s Delaney Ettleman toed the foul line with 2.2 seconds left and hit 1-of-2 foul shots to lift the host Panthers to a 60-59 win.

Lo-Ma’s win was attained primarily by a lopsided advantage at the free throw line, where the hosts finished 19-of-29 while Panorama attempted just nine foul shots, hitting four.

Ettleman led the hosts with 15 points, with 12 points from both Kylan Staight and Kenzie Conrad and 10 points from Kylie Morrison fueling the win. The home squad sank five 3-pointers in the victory.

Morgan Johnk led Panorama with 15 points while Devyn Kemble added 12. Bailey Beckman and Kallie Prince had nine points apiece and Nicole Rolfes and Faith Powell five each, with Hope Wilderman scoring four points, Brooke Halterman two and MaKenna Woodbine one.

Kemble sank a trio of 3-pointers, with Johnk, Beckman and Rolfes also knocking down triples.

The boys contest was quickly out of hand, with Panorama trailing, 12-4, after eight minutes and 34-10 at the break. The visitors were charged, unofficially, with 25 turnovers.

Peyton Parker nailed three treys to lead Panorama with nine points, with Gracen Welberg adding eight points. Six points from Bryce Halterman and two each from Blaine Barber and Mitchell Wagler accounted for the scoring.

Nic Hiller poured in four triples as part of a game-high 19 points for the hosts. Jessup Lake aided the cause with 13 points.

The Panorama girls open their season with a non-conference visit to Bondurant-Farrar Tuesday. Both teams will visit Des Moines Christian Nov. 29 and West Central Valley Dec. 2 before hosting IKM-Manning Dec. 3.
