Panorama grapplers score high at CR-B Invite

COON RAPIDS — Four of the eight Panorama wrestlers competing Saturday at the Crusader Invitational reached the finals of their weight class. Those efforts helped the Panthers place third in the 10-team event with 111 points.

South Central Calhoun had 164 points and West Central Valley 127 to claim the top two team spots.

Sophomore Wyatt Appleseth, ranked sixth at 145 pounds, blew through his bracket with a 3-0 mark to claim the top honors. Appleseth won by technical fall and twice by pin in improving to 22-1 for the season.

Noah Kirtley was 4-1 at 152 pounds to finish second. Now 18-7, Kirtley had three pins and a win by tech fall before losing by fall to 10th-rated Chase McAlister of SCC in the finals.

Logan Christie was 2-1 with a pair of pins to place second at 113, with heavyweight Hunter Holmes second with a 1-1 mark that featured a win by decision.

Garret Fox (17-8) was 3-1 with a trio of pins at 170 to place third, with Emry Colby third at 160 with a 3-1 effort that included two pins and a decision.

James Hein was 1-3 with a pin to finish sixth at 195, with Wyatt Clark unable to collect a win in four bouts to place fifth at 138.

Panorama will be joined by East Union and Southwest Valley Thursday in a quadrangular at Martensdale-St. Marys. The Panthers will then make their annual visit to the Perry Invitation Saturday.
