Panorama state champion Kolby Shackelford has accepted an invitation to play in the High School National Tournament at Walt Disney World Resorts June 27-28.

PANORA — The plaudits continue to roll in like birdie putts for Panorama golfer Kolby Shackelford.

The Panther junior won the Class 2A State Championship this season, one year after finishing second by a single stroke and after finishing ninth as a freshman.

Doing so has earned the standout an invitation to play in the High School Golf National Invitational at the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando, Fla. June 27-28.

“I was just hanging with some friend when coach (David) Van Ahn called and told me I had been invited,” Shackelford said. “It is quite the honor and I was very happy to accept.”

Shackelford has spent the past few summers playing well on the Iowa Junior PGA Tour and expects to play in several events this summer in addition to the trip to the National Invite. Some 224 golfers, including teams (1A state champion Des Moines Christian among them) earned invitations.

Play will be held on both the Palm and Magnolia courses at the world-famous resort.

“I am looking forward to it,” Shackelford said. “Everyone there is going to be great and it will be fun playing with them.”
