Panorama track competes at Van Meter Last-Minute Invite

VAN METER — When the Coon Rapids-Bayard Tom Tipton Invitational at Guthrie Center was cancelled Thursday it left numerous teams looking for a place to compete. As a result, Van Meter hastily assembled a “Last-Minute Invitational” of their own, at which several teams quickly agreed to attend. As part of the late arrangements, no field events were held, and no team scoring was kept.

The Panorama girls had top-three placers in 12 events, recorded 11 season-best results and had seven girls set a total of nine new personal bests. The Panther boys placed in the top three five times, had seven season best efforts and received 19 new personal bests from 12 athletes.

The Panther coaches named Shey Storesund and Ella Waddle co-MVP’s for the girls at the meet after both set two new PBs while Spencer Hunt was tabbed boys meet MVP on the strength of three new PBs.

Had team scores been kept, the Panorama girls would have topped ADM, 136-107, for top honors, with the Panorama boys placing fourth with 48 points.

Hunt won the boys 100 in 11.73 seconds, with Luke South second in the 110 hurdles in 16.01 ticks.

The duo paired with Zac Rizzuti and Gracen Welberg to win the sprint medley in 1 minute, 39.49 seconds, with South, Hunt, Welberg and Tanner Godfrey second in teh 4×200 in 1:38.36.

Also placing in the top three was the third-place 4×800 unit of Rizzuti, Coltin Stodgill, Josh Carstens and Danny Nordquist, which crossed in 9:53.15.

Gwen Steffen was the girls 400 in 1:05.31, with Ella Waddle third in 1:09.42. Waddle was second in the 1500 in 5:24.85, with Devyn Kemble second in the 800 in 2:27.45.

Morgan Johnk flew over the 100 hurdles in a winning time of 15.92, with Payton Douglass third in the 400 low hurdles in 1:16.27.

Douglass, Lydia Knapp, Carson Fisher and Kassidy Bremer won the 4×200 (1:55.82), with Gwen and Olivia Steffen joined by Kemble and Bailey Beckman in winning the 4×400 (4:20.24) while Douglass, Johnk, Storesund and Maggie Woodvine claimed the shuttle hurdle (1:11.18).

Kemble, Johnk, Beckman and Bremer were second, in 54.3, in the 4×100, with Olivia Steffen, Brooklyn Behrends, Lydia Lindstrom and Waddle crossing second, in 11:04.06, in the 4×800.

Also a runner-up was the distance medley foursome of Storesund, Fisher, Maddie Knapp and Brianna Hoffman, who clocked in at 4:49.92, with Fisher, Beckman, Bremer and Lydia Knapp third in the sprint medley at 2:00.96.

Both Panorama teams are scheduled to compete Tuesday at Earlham, with the Panther girls to visit AC/GC Thursday.
