STUART, Iowa — Friday night was not only a night for basketball here but also a night to wear pink in order to show support for those who are fighting — and winning or losing — the battle against cancer. The combined communities of Panora and Stuart filled the stands with pink, and many donations were made to fight this awful disease that has affected so many lives.

After a week off, the Panther girls basketball team came back with a win against West Central Valley Friday, outscoring the Wildcats 50-24.

Jaidyn Sellers had 10 rebounds, Mia Waddle 5 steals and Tyme Boettcher led scoring with 19.

“We got off to a slow start,” Coach Boettcher said, “but our defense kept control of the game. The girls came out of halftime strong on both ends.”

The Panther’s record is now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Their next matchup is Tuesday, Dec. 12 at home against I-35 High School.

The Panther boys dropped a very close 50-48 game against the WCV Wildcats in Stuart Friday night.  The two teams were stride by stride with each other the whole game, and the score was tied with 28.8 seconds left in the game.

The last 25 seconds of the game made the whole night for both teams. Maddox Hammerstrom drove to the hoop but was unable to sink the layup.

This gave WCV nearly 10 seconds to add final points for the win. The Wildcats sent a long toss to the opposite end of the court and made a last-second layup to pull ahead of the
Panthers.

Trey Boettcher led Panther scoring with 17 points. Maddox Hammerstrom scored 14, with Braylon Dawes adding 10, Ashton Stauffer 4 and Eli Hammerstrom 3 points.

It was a hard loss for the Panthers. Nest up is a boys-only game Monday night against
Woodward Academy at home, and Tuesday will again find the Panthers at home in a game against I-35.
