Panorama's Gracen Welberg takes the ball to the basket against Woodward-Granger last season. Welberg erupted for 25 points to lead the Panthers to victory Friday.

PANORA — Gracen Welberg went off for 25 points Friday, powering Panorama to a 64-52 WCAC win over West Central Valley that evened the Panther record at 1-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The hosts held only a 20-18 lead after one frame, but slowly began to widen their advantage and entered the locker room with a 38-26 cushion.

WCV (0-2, 0-2) tried to claw their way back into contention, but Welberg added 11 points after the break to his 14-point first half to help keep the guests at bay, with Luke South scoring seven of his nine points in the second half to aid the winning cause.

Panorama led, 50-39, entering the fourth quarter and were never seriously threatened in collecting the victory. The hosts finished 12-of-19 at the foul line, with the Wildcats making 5-of-8 at the stripe.

Jacob Merschman had 10 points for Panorama, with Blaine Barber adding eight points and Zac Rizzutti four. Malachi Peasley and Trey Cobb provided three points apiece, with two points from Kolby Shackleford closing the scoring ledger.

Kaleb Badker’s 14 points paced WCV, with Cole Arnburg and Drew Taylor scoring nine points apiece. Billy Larson had six points, Garrett Caltrider and Bryce Seachrist five each and Evan Taylor four for the visitors.

Panorama plays at IKM-Manning today, with the girls game starting at 1 p.m. and the boys to follow. Both Panther squads are at Earlham Tuesday and AC/GC Friday.
