Panther boys top Wolverines for second consecutive win

GREENFIELD — Panorama’s boys basketball team woke up Friday morning with one win in 11 games. By Saturday evening, the Panthers had three wins in 13 contests.

Fresh off a 70-24 whipping of WCV Friday, Panorama (3-13) recorded a 60-52 non-conference win over host Nodaway Valley (6-7) Saturday, a contest in which the Panthers were in control all the way.

Panorama opened a 15-6 lead after the first period, entering the locker room with a 28-20 at the break. The Panthers held a 45-34 advantage after three quarters and were able to hold on for the victory.

The hosts hit 7-of-21 3-pointers and the guests just 4-of-22, but the Panthers held a decided advantage at the foul line, sinking 20-of-28 from the stripe while the hosts connected on 9-of-13.

Nodaway Valley’s Spencer Thompson hit four 3-pointers, grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists while leading all scorers with 27 points. Brady Hilpipre had 12 points and also cleared eight boards.

Luke South led Panorama with 14 points, with Malachi Peasley adding 13 points and Michael Allen 11. Gracen Welberg provided eight points, Jacob Merschman and Zac Rizzuti four points apiece and Blaine Barber and Tanner Godfrey three points apiece. Welberg had nine rebounds, South seven caroms, and Merschman three assists.

Panorama hosts Earlham tonight and AC/GC Friday.
