The Panorama High School girls basketball team continued notching up victories this week, beating Martensdale St. Mary’s on the road in non-conference play Tuesday and Exira-Elk Horn Kimbolton at home Thursday.

The Panthers are now ranked eighth in Class 2A.

The Martensdale St. Mary’s Blue Devils, ranked 15th in Class 1A, were no match for the Panthers, who came out strong in the first quarter and never looked back, winning 60-42.

Offensively, Jaidyn Sellers led Panther with 21 points. Tyme Boettcher added 16 points,  with Zoey Hambleton at 11, Mia Waddle 8 and Kaitlin Kent and Morgan Crees at 2 points each.

“The team handled the pressure in the back court and executed the secondary break for transition buckets,” Coach Boettcher said. “Shifting our defense to match up with their shooters provided the adjustment we needed.”

The Panthers won Thursday’s game against Exira-Elk Horn Kimbolton 47-39.

Freshman Morgan Crees led Panther scoring with 17 points.

“It was a good team win,” Coach Boettcher said. “Especially at this time in our season with just 3 regular season games to go.”

The Panther girls’ record overall is now 17-1 and 12-0 in the conference.

The next game up for the Panthers will be Tuesday at home vs. Woodward Granger and then Friday at home vs. Des Moines Christian (Senior Night). Then on Monday, February 6th the Panthers will play against Ogden at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. This is part of the Iowa Wolves High School Hoops. Thursday’s game against Exira-Elk Horn Kimbolton was more challenging for the Panthers, who fell 89-56 to a hard-charging Exira squad.

Maddox Hammerstrom led the Panthers with 19 points.

The next game up for the Panthers will be Tuesday’s home game against the Woodward Granger High School Hawks and then another home game Friday against Des Moines Christian, which is also Senior Night.
