WOODWARD — Coaches often preach to their charges that every score matters, and the urging certainly proved true for the Panorama girls at the 18-hole Woodward-Granger Invitational Thursday.

Panorama used a lower fifth score (four are counted for the team total, the fifth used as a tiebreaker) to bump Ballard for the team title after each finished at 425. ADM was third at 437, with W-G (446), Ogden (453) and AC/GC (494) following. Perry and Madrid each played with only three players and thus did not generate a team score.

Ogden’s Maranda Wheelock (46-43–89) was the overall medalist, with Perry’s Alyssa Kruger (44-47–91) second and Ballard’s Alle Echer (52-43–95) third. Perry’s Delaney Eiteman (50-51–101) and AC/GC’s Haley Sheeder (52-49–101) tied for fourth.

Madi Fear (50-53–103), Lauren McClatchey (53-53–106), Anna Duis (49-59–108) and Jordan Douglass (55-63–108) provided the scoring for team titleist Panorama. The Panthers won when their fifth score — a 51-59–110 from Abby Cobb — was 15 strokes better than Ballard’s fifth score. Chloe Webster (56-57–113) was also in action for Panorama.

W-G’s Cierra DeHoet just missed a medal in leading the Hawks with her 50-52–102. Aubrey Mescher (58-52–110), Emma Greiner (55-61–116) and Bailey Thompson (59-59-118) also scored for the hosts. The Hawks did not count the rounds produced by either Emily Trewet (56-68–124) or Megan Burkhart (70-63–133).

In addition to Kruger and Eiteman, Perry received a 53-58–111 from Hannah Roberts. Perry was without Molly Lutmer and Skylar Cunningham, and had such an edge over their first three scores that a fourth of 121 would still have been low enough to win the team crown.

Lauren Smith (48-59–107), Ana Vier (53-54–107) and Ashley Drew (59-57–116) joined Echer in scoring for Ballard, with Emily Nueman (51-52–103), Alyssa Pingel (54-52–106), Liv Rickert (54-55–109) and Grace McElwain (56-63–119) scoring for ADM.

Odgen had Faith Mohr (56-58–114), Shaylie Johannsen (58-61–119) and Emma Blair (67-64–134) adding their scores to the medalist card of Wheelock, with the quartet of Sheeder, Kena Baier (59-56–115), Jessica Stringer (65-66–131) and Sally Jo Geckler (73-74–147) creating the AC/GC total.

Also in action were the Madrid trio of Sydney Weise (57-56–113), Sophia Harshbarger (55-56–113) and Malorie Smith (68-67–135).

Panorama will play in the Kuemper Catholic Invitational in Carroll Saturday before competing Monday in the WCAC girls meet, which will be played at Winterset.
