GILBERT — A powerful Gilbert squad proved to be as good as advertised Friday, bouncing upstart Panorama from the Class 1A postseason with a 5-0 shutout. Gilbert topped Treynor, 3-0, Monday to earn the second-seed in the state tournament.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Panorama finishes their inaugural season in varsity competition with an overall record of 12-5.

Jensen Wilke, Lexi Van Winkle, Makenna Woodvine, Bailey Cmelik, Nicole Rolfes, and Martina Rade were the six seniors suiting up for the Panthers this season.

Panorama outscored their foes by a combined 83-37. They blanked six opponents and were themselves shut out only twice, with players who scored 70 of the 83 goals and both goalies returning next year. All five losses were to teams with winning records.

The Panthers are coached by Curt Thornberry.

  1. Jeff Webster is a great reporter of sports events. All season he has identified Curt Thornberry as the head coach of the Panorama girls soccer team. The team has been co-coached! Curt and Brandon Waddle. Hopefully, next year the correct recognition will be noted. Thank you for great coverage of area sports!

    • I apologize to Brandon — the oversight was not intentional. In the information initially provided by the school Brandon was listed as an assistant, and not a co-head coach. Curt and Brandon clearly worked well together, and the results the Panthers produced on the pitch prove it. Next year could be even better, as the team is certain to improve as they gain experience.
