Panther softball wins one of three

DES MOINES — A special visit to Drake University’s Buel Field ended swiftly Saturday as Panorama ripped Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 12-0, for a three-inning win in non-conference softball. The Panthers sold special t-shirts and raised $400 for Tori’s Angels charity.

Panorama (9-19 overall, 4-15 in WCAC play) were coming off a rough twin bill at Interstate-35 (17-7, 13-5) Thursday, with the hosts Roadrunners claiming wins of 10-0 and of 21-4 in a pair of shortened games.

Saturday’s blasting of the Cowgirls began in four batters, with clean-up hitter Kennedy Andersen launching a grand slam. Lydia Knapp had a double, a single and three runs scored, with Claire Woodworth hitting a double. Ashley Clark had a triple and a single, with Vallerie Storesund adding a hit and driving in two runs.

Grace Richey tossed three swift frames, yielding two hits and striking out two for the quick win.

I-35 led 2-0 in the first game Thursday before ending the game with two outs in the fifth when their eighth run of the inning scored, pushing the score to 10-0.

Knapp allowed 10 runs, of which only two were earned, on nine hits and seven walks. She struck out two in 4-2/3 innings.

Claire Woodworth had two singles, with Hannah Woodworth, Shey Storesund, Olivia Richey and Knapp adding base hits.

Ava Knoll threw four frames, allowing five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Katie Murphy allowed a hit in an inning of relief.

Eighth-grade Josie McCuddin had a double, home run and three RBIs to spark the Roadrunners.

I-35 had scored 12 runs before four Panorama tallies crossed the plate in the bottom of the third in the nightcap. Nine runs in the top of the fourth helped end the game early.

Grace Richey yielded 21 runs (15 earned) on 17 hits and four walks in 3-2/3 innings. She struck out two. Cassidy Hoehne walked three before recording one out.

Andersen and Knapp had two singles and two RBIs apiece, with Shey Storesund, Shelbie Mash and Clark adding singles.

McCuddin had four hits, three RBIs and three runs and Holly Finley four hits, four RBIs and three runs for I-35. Kate Greenwell had two singles and scored four times, with Kate Stanley driving in four runs on two doubles.

Murphy went three frames in the ring, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits while fanning two. Knoll recorded two outs and Maeci Anderson one, with Anderson yielding a hit.

Panorama is at Saydel tonight, visits WCV Tuesday and travels to Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton Friday.
