Panthers finish 4-1 at Saturday tourney

CORNING — Panorama, winner of just seven matches last season, lifted their record to 12-6 overall after winning four of five matches at the Southwest Valley Volleyball Tourney Saturday.

Panorama topped Atlantic 21-18 and 21-12 and Class 1A No. 13 CAM, 21-17 and 21-19 while posting a 2-1 victory over Lenox on finals of 21-16, 18-21, 15-4. The Panthers faced AHSTW twice, first falling 2-1 (25-27, 25-23 and 13-15) before winning 2-1 (14-21, 21-14, 15-13).

Brooke Halterman finished with 38 total kills and Morgan Johnk with 22 while Olivia Richey provided 19. Bailey Beckman had 18 kills, with Kennedy Kuta adding four and Erica Block two. Kuta distributed 56 assists, with Block chipping in six assists and Johnk and Richey one apiece.

All Panthers produced a strong number of digs. Richey had 19, Halterman 17, Beckman 16, Johnk and Kuta 12 apiece and Block 11. Halterman and Block each had four total blocks while Johnk had 3.5, Kuta 1.4 and Beckman and Richey a half-block each.

Richey served 50-of-53 with seven aces, Kuta 47-of-53 with six aces and Halterman 45-of-50 with two aces. Beckman was 28-30-1 behind the line, Block 25-30-1 and Johnk 26-28-2.

The Panthers visit West Central Valley tonight, and will return home October 2 when they host Van Meter.
