Panthers ground Chargers in WCAC action

GUTHRIE CENTER — Both Panorama basketball teams will enter their holiday break on an up note, as the Panther boys posted an 81-67 win over host AC/GC after clutch foul shooting led the Panther girls to a 52-48 victory in the opener.

Payton Beckman sank 14-of-16 free throws, including 10-of-12 in the second half, as Panorama (5-2, 4-1) won a back-and-forth battle with the Chargers (4-3, 3-2).

AC/GC led by two points after one frame, with the teams locked at 26-all at the intermission. The lead changed hands several times in the second half, with neither team able to pull away. Panorama led, 36-34, entering the fourth quarter, and managed to hand on down the stretch to claim the win.

Beckman finished with a game-high 22 points, with Angel Poldberg providing 15 points. Laci Rishel’s 12 points and three from Anna Holloway capped the scoring for the guests.

Polderg had a strong all-around game, grabbing nine rebounds, making four steals and blocking two shots. Holloway and Shey Storesund had four boards apiece, with Beckman adding five steals, Rishel four and Ella Waddle three, with Storesund making two thefts.

Alaina Bunde had 13 points, Jorja Hoover 12, Emma Kay McClain 10, Kennedy Young six, Kylie Young five and Saige O’Brien two for the hosts.

Both boys teams scored a total of 58 points apiece in the final three quarters of their game, but the outcome proved to have been decided in the first eight minutes, which saw the Panthers outscore their hosts, 23-9.

Malachi Peasley blistered the nets, leading all scorers with 30 points. The Panther guard buried six 3-pointers and was perfect on all eight of his attempts from the foul line.

Zach Rizzuti and Kolby Shackelford had 17 and 14 points, respectively, for Panorama, with each sinking three 3-pointers. Michael Allen added eight points, Drew Taylor five, Dominic Walker three and Lucas Leiferman and Evan Taylor two points apiece.

Bryce Littler hit four triples to lead AC/GC with 18 points. Quynton Younker and Ben Marsh scored 13 points apiece, with Eli Kading tallying 11 points. Eight points from Miles Kading and two apiece form Lucas Marsh and Charlie Crawford completed the Charger scoring.
