MADRID — The high-powered Panorama offense awoke late Tuesday and rallied from a five-run deficit to seize the lead, only to see Madrid respond with a surge of their own to win, 11-10, in a WCAC thriller.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]
Panorama (2-4, 2-4) had plated single tallies in three of the first four innings, but by then Madrid (4-3, 3-2) had scored eight times to open an 8-3 lead.
The Panthers closed to within 8-6 with a three-run top of the sixth, then crossed the plate four times in the seventh to seize a 10-8 lead.
Unfortunately for the guest, Madrid was able to avenge a one-run loss (6-5) to Panorama May 24 by turning the tables and scoring three times in their final at-bat to post the win.
Natalie Wilson went 6-1/3 innings in the ring for the hosts, allowing nine runs (only two of which were earned) on 10 hits and three walks. Erica Bruns picked up the win in two-thirds of a frame while allowing one run on two hits. Each Tiger pitcher struck out two.
Olivia Richey started for Panorama and lasted 2-2/3 innings. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits and six walks while striking out two. Grace Richey pitched four frames, walking two and allowing four runs (all unearned) on five hits in being handed the loss.
Gabby Brunner, Courtney Wilson and Bruns had three RBIs apiece for Madrid, with Shelbi Raymond also driving in a run.
Claire Woodworth had the hot bat for the Panthers, hitting two singles and two doubles and driving in five runs while scoring twice. Shey Storesund had two hits, scored three times, and had a RBI while Ashley Clark had two hits and scored once.
Panorama is off until a visit to Harcourt Saturday for the Southeast Valley tourney. The team returns home Monday to host Earlham.
