Panthers stumble in trio of conference outings

A pair of losses to visiting Earlham Thursday followed a home setback against Madrid Monday as Panorama dropped three games in WCAC softball last week.

Earlham (20-6, 11-5) posted wins of 14-4 and of 7-3 after Madrid (9-11, 7-8) claimed a 5-3 win to open the week. The losses dropped Panorama to 7-15 overall and 3-11 in league action.

The Cardinals swatted three home runs in winning Thursday’s first game. Allie Boyle had a homer and a single with one RBI and four runs scored, with Katlyn Voss hitting three singles and a home run while accounting for three runs and two RBIs. Alexis Bean had a double and a home run with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Lydia Knapp led the Panthers with a double and a single while Lindsey VanGundr drove in a run with two hits. Kennedy Andersen aided the cause with a single and three total RBIs.

Knapp tossed seven innings, surrendering 14 runs (12 earned) on 14 hits and eight walks. She struck out four.

Madeline Janssen yielded four runs on four hits and a walk in throwing seven frames for Earlham. She struck out five and used her bat to help herself by producing three hits and driving home three runs.

Janssen won the nightcap as well, allowing three runs on 10 hits while striking out two and walking two.

Bean finished her impressive night with three singles and another home run, driving in five of the seven Cardinal runs in the second game.

Grace Richey went six innings for the Panthers. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and four walks while recording two strikeouts.

Hannah Woodworth had two doubles, two runs and a RBI for the Panthers, with Ashley Clarke adding a double while Claire Woodworth had two hits and two RBIs. Jazmyn Sellers had three single, with Shey Storesund providing a single, a walk and a run scored.

Panorama scored three times in the bottom of the fifth Monday to move into a 3-1 lead against Madrid. The Tigers responded with three runs of their own in the sixth to retake the edge, at 4-3, before capping the scoring with a single tally in the seventh.

Erica Bruns yielded three runs (two earned) on four hits. She walked two Panorama batters and struck out four.

Erin O’Neal led the Tiger offense with a double, two singles, two runs and a RBI.

Shey Storesund, Hannah Woodworth and Sellers each had singles, with Vallerie Storesund doubling home a run and scoring once. Clark walked twice and scored, with Sellers also scoring while Shey Storesund and Hannah Woodworth each drove a run across the plate.

Grace Richey went the distance in the ring for the hosts. She allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks while fanning three batters.

Panorama will celebrate Senior Night Monday when they host AC/GC for a WCAC doubleheader. A conference trip to Ogden is scheduled for Tuesday, with Panorama to play a league twin bill at Interstate-35 Thursday.
