Patricia Francis ‘Pat’ Potter of Perry

Patricia Francis “Pat” Potter, daughter of Lawrence Longerbone and Patricia Sedwick, was born May 5, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, and died Sept. 19, 2016, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 73.

Pat grew up in Des Moines and graduated from North High School in 1961.

She married Jerry Douglas, and they had a son, Jay.

Pat owned her own beauty shop in Guthrie Center.

She then married Terry Ritter and they had a son, Lester, and a daughter, Theresa “Terri”.

Pat lived various places throughout her life.

In the 1990s she married Gene Potter, and they made their home in Perry.

She worked at IDEA Press and the Maid-Rite.

Pat was an accomplished artist and made many things for folks and the Perry Community Playhouse. Pat loved her cats, and she enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Theresa “Terri” Ritter; son, Jerry Douglas “Jay;” husband, Gene Potter; and sister-in-law, Loraine Mearl.

She is survived by her son, Lester (Lori) Ritter of Perry; four grandchildren, Kinsey, Caitlin, Sydney and Leslie; great-granddaughter, Adrianna; sisters, Donna Thacker of Des Moines, Judy Hougham of Belton, Mo., and Janet Buckley of Dallas, Texas; nieces; nephews; other relatives;and many friends.

Hastings Funeral Home in Perry was in charge of arrangements.
