The Perry Baseball Club (PBC), formed in the winter 2022, has completed a successful spring/summer season. The club aims to give Perry youth a chance to play beyond rec and little league baseball.

“In order for our youth players to be ready to play competitively in high school, they must be playing competitively at 8 and 10 years old,” said a member of the PBC board of directors. “PBC provides this opportunity for Perry youth to engage in the travel baseball experience while gaining the skills necessary to be able to play competitively in high school.”

The PBC put three teams on the field this year: 12U, 11U and 9U.

The 9U team played a limited schedule, with a trip to Mason City to compete in the Mason City Youth Baseball Association (MCYBA) and appearances in the Perry Little League tournament.

The PBC 11U players saw play in four U.S. Specialty Sports Association/Central Iowa Sports (USSSA/CIS) tournaments in the Des Moines metro area as well as the MCYBA. The team wrapped up their season with a trip to the state tournament in Iowa City where they placed second in the Iowa State 11A Division 1 Gold Bracket.

Coaches for the 11U team included Casey Finn, Bethany Wicks, Ned Menke and Travis Landgrebe. Players were Ryker Norman, Liam Finn, Rafe Meyers, Jayse Whelchel, Drew Adair, Jackson Sass, Gavin Landgrebe, Quincy Weaver, Thai Wicks, Pierce Menke, Mason Armstrong, Cash Baxter, Charlie Baxter, Caleb Harland, Addyison Valadez, Abraham Hernandez and Jayden Rojero.

PBC 12U participated in five USSSA/CIS tournaments, capturing second place in both the Summer Sizzler and Midwest Mayhem. This team also made the trip to the MCYBA tournament in Mason City.

Coaches for the 12U crew included Cole Adair, Doug Jacobs and Randy Pentico. Players were Hayden Splendor, Brandon and Bryant Jacobs, Jayse Whelchel, Brody Brelsford, Luke Adair, Bryton Ward, Gauge Freeman, Brady Welch, Cooper Lantz, Cameren Lauer and Hayden Rothfus.

The PBC will hold tryouts for the upcoming 2023-2024 travel baseball season this Saturday, Aug. 5 at the ballfields in Pattee Park. For more information about tryouts, visit the Perry Baseball Club Facebook page.
