Ballard will be the guest Friday when Perry hosts the annual Coaches versus Cancer games.
The twin bill is being dubbed as a Pink-Out to Black-Out Cancer affair, with all fans encourage to wear pink in support of the struggle against all forms of cancer. Coaches will be in soft-soled shoes as part of the nationwide Coaches Wearing Sneakers effort to draw attention to the battle against the disease.
Special guests will be those connected to team members who have been affected by cancer. A special recognition will be held, honoring fans either directly affected by cancer or who have lost loves ones to cancer.
Announcements will be made throughout the evening, and a 48-second bucket drill fundraiser will be held, proceeds going to the Dallas County Relay For Life.
SkillsUSA will be offering a $6 pulled pork sandwich/chips/drink dinner, with $1 from each donated to Relay For Life.
A special moment will be held as the Perry Community School District will recognize citizens involved in saving the life of referee Bernie Rangel, who suffered a heart attack during a recent middle school game in Perry in which Ballard was the visitor.
Several fans, who happened to be medical or emergency personnel, intervened to save Rangel’s life by using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED).
The girls game will begin at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow.
