In keeping with the tradition of Perry hosting outdoor fun in the winter comes the first-ever 5k Fun Run, the inaugural Tinsel Trot.

If people are willing to take a bike ride in February, why not try to encourage them to go for a run in December?

That appears to be the question the Perry Booster Club recently asked, and the result was the creation of the first-ever Tinsel Trot, a 5k Fun Run to be held Dec. 17.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the McCreary Community Building, 1800 Pattee St. in Perry. Check-in will begin at noon.

In keeping with the theme of having a little fun for the holidays, zany costumes are being encouraged, but are not required. Prizes will be awarded for “Most Festive” in the Adult, Student and Team classes.

Post-race snacks will be offered, as will a photo opportunity with Santa Claus himself. The jolly ol’ elf will not be a participant in the event, as he is reportedly a little busy at this time of year.

Organizers have stated the event will proceed regardless of weather conditions, while noting refunds will not be issued should travel not be advised.

Registration fees are $30 for adults and $20 for students, and those received before Dec. 10 will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Questions can be directed to Tiffany Olejniczak at olejniczak5@msn.com.

Registration forms are available at both the Perry High School and Middle School, as well as the Perry Chamber of Commerce, Great Western Bank, Perry Perk and the McCreary Community Building.
