GRAND JUNCTION — The Greene County soccer programs are in their first year of existence and certainly started with a bang. The Rams fired out to a 6-1 start before dropping consecutive 1-0 matches to a good Kuemper Catholic team and a quite good Gilbert squad.

Stopping the recent skid Friday would mean defeating a Perry team still smarting from a 3-1 Tuesday loss to Winterset, and it was clear from the opening stages the visiting Bluejays were not in a generous mood.

Perry (5-3) scored a 6-1 win over Greene County (6-4), allowing only a second-half penalty kick from Leo Marques (called for a handball in the goal box) in choking off the Ram offense.

The Bluejays have had their share of offensive struggles this season, but had little difficult moving the scoreboard at Karber Field. Ever Tobar led the way with a hat trick (three goals), while Mike Velasco, German Alvarenga and Wilber Ramirez also found the back of the net.

The Perry junior varsity was also in action, claiming a 7-0 win. Details were not made available.

Perry hosts a tournament at Dewey Field today. Due to the Perry prom this evening, the Jays will play in the first two matches, facing Des Moines Lincoln at 9 a.m. and Urbandale at 10:30 a.m.
